Massive day for Mark Kavanagh at Morphettville

It was a massive day for jockey Mark Pegus with four winners, and trainer Mark Kavanagh who landed a treble on the eight race card of racing.

Pegus took the first on the short priced favourite Port Vell, who did have to pull out all stops in the home straight to hold off the disappointing imported galloper Rebel Soldier, with Dirty Ona Drink third.

The winner is prepared by Colin Little in Victoria.

The most impressive performance of the day belonged to We’re Gonna Rock from the Mark Kavanagh stable, who produced a stunning final 600 metres, to record a devastating first up victory.

It was the son of Fastnet Rock’s first run since February 2011, and his first outing as a gelding. He is sure to be set for a big race in the country in the coming months, possibly even the $500,000 Distinctive Homes Goodwood on May 12 at Morphettville.

Left in his wake when Chad Lever said go, were Globalwarmnsceptic, and Believe In More who filled the minor placings.

It was an early double for both Kavanagh and Pegus, when this time they combined to take the Third, with newcomer Tormented.

The daughter of Charge Forward was having her first race start and was impressive doing it at both ends, to defeat the Victorians Languish and Velonski.

Monica Kate was noticed making late ground, and is one to follow out of the event.

Mark Pegus took his tally for the day to three in Race Four, when he steered the Michael Hickmott trained Always Discreet,to an easy all the way victory.

The mare has a real love affair with the Parks circuit at Morphettville, as all of her three wins have come there.

Exalted Brother and Cellarmaster continued their consistent form to make up the trifecta.

Another outstanding win in Race Five, this time it was Bowerbird from the Kylie Huxtable yard, who produced a last to first victory in beating Silent Attitude, with Wings On Her Feet third.

For winning jockey Chad Lever it brought up a double, whilst for Bowerebird it made it three wins from four starts.

Honest galloper Gold Bundle was rewarded with another win in Race Six, with Jordan Frew riding for the Paul Seater stable.

Counter Sign continues to race well and ran second, and former Queenslander Pixu, which had won at its only other S.A. start at Murray Bridge, ran a nice race to finish third.

It had been a frustrating day for the Leon Macdonald – Andrew Gluyas stable with Southern Speed’s nose defeat in the Australian Cup at Flemington, and they got a small consolation prize in Race Seven, when Magic Milady and Clare Lindop saluted.

The daughter of Starcraft looks to have come back well, and won in good style from Little Miss Bourke and Hex.

In the last Faltastic completed the fantastic day for Mark Kavanagh and Mark Pegus when the horse produced a big finish to beat the luckless Roman Eye with old timer Just A Giggle third.

Kav Racing Hot's Up!

It may have been a quiet Spring, but Kavanagh Racing’s team has been set for the Summer period. With a lot of inexperienced young horses set to race in the next few months the stable is happy with their decision to bypass the Spring and take advantage of the excellent pastures and give their horses a little for time, and the way the horses have developed is testament to the fact they made the right move.
