Adelaide Magic Millions is a happy hunting ground for Kavanagh

The Adelaide Magic Millions yearling sale has proved a happy hunting ground for trainer Mark Kavanagh. It is the sale where he unearthed several of his top line performers including four time Group One winner Divine Madonna, Blue Diamond Winner Undoubtedly, Turnbull Stakes winner Devil Moon and SA Derby winner Hard to Get.

Add to this list stakes winners the likes of Catapulted, Dr Doute's, Tipungwuti and Danabaa and it was no surprise to see the trainer active at the Morphettville sales complex this week.

Similarly it was no surprise that five of his six yearling purchases were consigned by Mill Park Stud, the leading South Australian nursery with whom Kavanagh has enjoyed a tremendous association. The aforementioned Devil Moon, Divine Madonna, Undoubtedly and Catapulted all graduated from the paddocks of the Watson family's Mill Park Stud as did their home bred mare Midnight Martini with whom Kavanagh won the VRC Matriarch Stakes and Cranbourne Cup.

Heading back across the border to the Kavanagh farm Marbellesa Park will be colts by New Approach, I Am Invincible, Hard Spun and Moshe and fillies by Master of Design and Dream Ahead.

Touted as the best value sale in Australia Kavanagh out laid $412,000 for his six Adelaide yearlings at an average price of just over $68,000. His top buy at $185,000 was an outstanding colt by I Am Invincible from the More Than Ready mare Lassie Mactavish.

"If he was on the Gold Coast you would have had to pay twice as much for him," Kavanagh told reporter Brad Bishop (view the complete interview below).
