Back to back wins for Spanish Love

Progressive mare Spanish Love registered her second win in as many weeks when successful at Flemington on Saturday December 13.

The daughter of High Chaparral had ventured to Moonee Valley the previous Friday where she scored an explosive win in the Alliance Group Plate over 1600m.

On that occasion the four-year-old gained a split with a hundred to run and sprinted clear of her rivals to record a two and a quarter length win over Kelkea with Titanicca another three quarters away in third.

By comparison she ground down her rivals at Flemington in what was a determined but no less impressive display.

Partnered by last start winning rider Craig Williams Spanish Love settled in third behind Kiss Me Ketut who had taken up the running from Native Land. Kiss Me Ketut set a generous pace and had plenty to offer in the straight but finally surrendered the lead to Native Land with two hundred to run. Spanish Love in turn knuckled down at the hundred metre mark and set out after Native Land claiming that mare with fifty to go and drawing away to a three quarter of a length win. Lilly Dazzler made an eye catching run from the rear of the field but was safely held in third one and three quarter lengths away.

Spanish Love, a late maturing filly with a bit of attitude, has now won two of her six starts and has only missed a place in one outing. She will return to Moonee Valley for her next start on January 3.
