Catapulted Makes Light Work of Doveton Stakes
Evergreen sprinter Catapulted returned to racing on Saturday with a comprehensive win in the $120,500 Listed MRC Doveton Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield.
With Michael Rodd in the saddle the seven-year-old settled toward the rear before cantering up to them out wide on the turn. He made light work of his 60kg top weight sprinting clear in the straight and going on to register a three length margin over stablemate Undeniably.
Catapulted has been a model of consistency throughout his career - a stellar career- which was launched with his debut win at Morphettville as a two-year-old in 2008.
Catapulted registered his first stakes success in the City Of Marion Stakes in December 2009, a year in which he survived life threatening colic surgery. He has notched a stakes win in each subsequent year, the highlight no doubt a trio of stakes wins across three states in 2010 - the Group Three DC McKay Stakes at Morphettville, the Listed Straight Six at Flemington and the Group Two QTC Cup at Eagle Farm.
His first up win in the Doveton Stakes brought his earnings to $859,825, an appreciative amount for a sprinter.
Runner up Undeniably, who came from last, showed a pleasing return to form after a long lay off. The son of Fastnet Rock failed to come up in a previous campaign after suffering travel sickness but looked back to his best in the Doveton.
