Flying filly Wild Rain impresses at Moonee Valley

Three-year-old filly Wild Rain looked impressive on Saturday when she out sprinted the older mares to win the $80,000 Pantry Packer Handicap and register her second win at Moonee Valley.

An exceptionally fast, on-pace filly Wild Rain was well suited by the Valley circuit and appreciated the drop back to 1000 metres after finishing fifth over 1200 metres at her previous outing.

So often left in the lead in her races by virtue of her natural pace Wild Rain was able to relinquish that role to the dual stakes winning speedster and top weight Minaj who resumed from a spell.

Minaj showed her customary pace and bounced to the lead from a wide barrier, It's Poets Day followed with Wild Rain settling sweetly in third for jockey Glen Boss. As expected the pace was solid with the first two posting a sub 11 second sectional between the 800 and 600 metre marks.

But Wild Rain had the drop on the pair joining them with apparent ease on the turn before kicking clear a hundred from home. The margin was a decisive two and a half lengths with a line of five vying for the minor placings. Favourite Pilly's Wish drove through late for second while Its Poet's Day and Minaj stuck on well for third and fourth respectively.

Wild Rain has now won four of her ten starts for prizemoney of $143,500. She was purchased by her trainer as a yearling at the 2013 Gold Coast Magic Millions and is raced in partnership by Isobel & Levi Kavanagh, Brett Griffith & Tim Storey of Collins St Partners, Wade McKibben, Anna Stenswick's DTTM Syndicate, Stan & Anna Hunt and Gary and Rhonda Ma.

Wild Rain is scheduled to race again at Caulfield on July 4.
