Kav pulls the 'right rein' with Wild Rain

Trainer Mark Kavanagh 'pulled the right rein' when he decided to send three-year-old Wild Rain to Morphettville on Saturday.

Kavanagh loaded the filly on the truck to Adelaide alongside stablemate and eventual SA Derby fourth Magicool, after the closure of Sandown saw a series of unsuitable amendments to the Victorian program.

A daughter of Manhattan Rain Wild Rain won at Moonee Valley in January over 1000 metres in a display of sustained speed.

She had returned to racing down the straight at Flemington on Anzac Day and while she could only manage sixth place on that occasion it was the only primer she needed to win in Adelaide.

With champion jockey Damien Oliver in the pilot's seat the flying filly bounced to the lead and gave her rivals something to chase. None were up to the task however and Wild Rain motored home to win by two lengths. Cashed was second and Duckworth was a further two and a quarter lengths away in third.

Wild Rain was purchased as a yearling at the 2013 Gold Coast Magic Millions and is raced in partnership by Isobel & Levi Kavanagh, Brett Griffith & Tim Storey of Collins St Partners, Wade McKibben, Anna Stenswick's DTTM Syndicate, Stan & Anna Hunt and Gary and Rhonda Ma.

Wild Rain may have her next start at Moonee Valley on June the 6th.
