Levi's City Chances Targeting Black Type

For the first time, young Flemington-based trainer Levi Kavanagh will saddle up three city runners in a week and believes all three are excellent chances, with bigger and better races the target this preparation.

Wild Vixen (Brett Prebble) and Aree Al (Damien Oliver), now a certain starter, will run at Ladbrokes Park Lakeside on Wednesday, and last start winner Excess Funds (Michael Poy) will step out at Caulfield on Saturday.

"I'm looking forward to seeing Wild Vixen return, she's had a really good prep and she won her jumpout nicely," Levi said.

"I think she is a good chance over the 1200m on Wednesday, but she'll certainly improve when she gets out over 1400m.

"I'm hopeful she can get black type this preparation and I think a race like the Listed Nitschke Stakes (1400m) would be perfect for her."

Aree Al is looking to build on an eye-catching first-up run for Levi, having formerly been with Robbie Laing.

"He's a good horse, Robbie did a great job with him letting him mature and now I'm ready to take him up through the grades," he added.

"His first-up run at Sandown was really good and my goal is to get him out over 2000m this preparation."

Last-start winner Excess Funds also has a big program ahead of him if all goes to plan and stronger border restrictions aren't introduced.

"The aim is to head to the Group 2 Euclase Stakes (1200m) at Morphettville in early May, if he goes well there then I wouldn't rule out going to the Group 1 Goodwood (1200m) as a lightweight contender," Levi said.

"He won nicely at Caulfield last start and I think he can go on with it now.

"We've elected to use the claim of Michael Poy since he's gone up in the weights and hopefully we see him finish off strongly again."

All three horses will race in Collins Street Partners blue silks with the red cross and white arms.
