Midnight Martini Caps a Successful Comeback

Street Cry mare Midnight Martini capped a successful comeback from injury when she scored a well deserved stakes win in the Listed $200,000 Cranbourne Cup on October 14.

The five-year-old had shown good staying potential last spring when fourth in the Herbert Power and third in the Coongy but was injured during the running of the Lexus Stakes, the race won by Shocking immediately prior to his Melbourne Cup win.

Midnight Martini was side-lined for the remainder of the spring and indeed her racing future was in doubt.

Midnight Martini was co-bred by leading South Australian breeders Mill Park and Toorak Park studs who retained the filly to race. It was perhaps due in part to the timing of her injury that it was agreed that Midnight Martini would undergo surgery with the hope that she could one day return to training.

After an extended spell at the Watson family's Mill Park Stud Midnight Martini was sent to Rockmount, a Victorian based pre-training farm, where she pre-trained on a water walker.

She returned to the Kavanagh Flemington stable at the end of June and posted several encouraging performances before her emphatic victory in the Cranbourne Cup.

Midnight Martini now heads to the Matriarch Stakes at Flemington on November 10.
