Rubick off to a flying start

Rubick’s first progeny hit the track at stakes level last weekend in Sydney and has already finished on the podium.

Kavanagh Racing has a cracking chestnut colt on offer by this boom first-season sire who is in the process of his educational stable preparation. Having jumped out the gates for the first time this week, his trainer Levi Kavanagh said that he is showing huge potential in his work.

“He has improved rapidly in his time in the stable, running good times through the line, clocking 23.9 under a hold and keen to go quicker. I’m really taken by the turn of foot he’s shown.”

Kavanagh Racing purchased this son of Rubick at the Sydney Classic Yearling sale for only $85,000.  He was great value due to the fact he was smaller and looked to need time.

“We sent him to the farm to grow and mature and we are wrapped in the way he has progressed. If he was to go through the ring now he would go for far more, he has really come along and developed into a lovely big strong colt,” added Levi.

This horse was bred to sprint, his dam Save A Penny was a multiple 1000m winner at metro grade. On pedigree he looks an early goer too, he is related to champion American sprinter Groovy and Champion American 2YO Boston Harbour.

He will head back to the paddock now as he has learnt so much this time in. “He will enjoy a rest now and will be back in the stable towards the end of the year and expected to hit the track in the Autumn. If he shows the same amount of improvement when next in work who knows what he may be capable of.”

Rubick is well known as the most precocious son of Champion sire and proven sire of sires in Encosta De Lago. Sadly, Encosta De Lago passed away this week making this colt even more valuable.
