Soho Ruby retired

Stakes placed Soho Ruby has been retired from Racing and will be sold as a broodmare.

The five-year-old daughter of Northern Meteor won five races including two races at Flemington. She also run a brilliant third place in the Group 3 Frances Tressady Stakes on Super Saturday at Flemington.

“Soho Ruby had some great results in the Autumn and I did have some big plans for her this Spring. However, with a niggling soreness starting to reappear, unfortunately it was not meant to be, said her trainer Levi Kavanagh.

“She has been good to me and I want to look after her, so in consultation with our vet and her owners, the decision was made to retire her this week.

“Being able to earn some black-type with her was fantastic and I always thought that she had the ability to win a Group race. Although we did not quite get there, I will be forever grateful for the start she gave me as a trainer.”

Soho Ruby provided Levi a trio of firsts. His first winner, his first city mid-week win, and also his first Saturday winner at Flemington.

“She was one of the first horses that I purchased to start training in my own right and winning my first race is something I will never forget. She will always hold a special place in my heart” added Levi.

Soho Ruby was bred by respected Victorian breeder Sally Watkins, who bought the mare Red Rapture in foal with Soho Ruby from Vinery in the same year that Northern Meteor died. Kavanagh Racing purchased Soho Ruby for $190,000 at the 2015 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

“Soho Ruby will be an asset to any breeder as she has a great pedigree and was extremely talented on the track. Being a lovely, strong type of mare, she will throw some very nice progeny. I look forward to seeing her foals and hopefully training some of them one day.”
