Two Runners, Two States
Mark Kavanagh saddles up two runners in two states this weekend, Vegas Jewel at Morphetteville, and Big Brew at Caulfield.
Eales Racing’s Vegas Jewel has headed over the border to Adelaide for the South Australian Oaks lead up, the Group 3 Schweppervescence Stakes over 1800m. She will jump from Barrier 15 and inform SA jockey, Jason Holder, has been booked to take the ride.
Vegas Jewel resumed at Bendigo last month, after a well-deserved break, off the back of her Spring campaign.
“She ran well at Bendigo first up in a slow run race, she just got back too far and had to make a long run home. With a strong speed predicted today, she should be right in the finish, said Mark.
Caulfield will host the sixth annual Victorian Owners and Breeders Raceday. The raceday which offers $2.2 million in prize money and bonuses, serves to celebrate the contribution owners and breeders make to the Victorian racing industry and reward those who breed, buy, own and race locally.
Owned and bred by Mr William Bowness, Big Brew, lines up in the Surewise Vobis Gold Heath over 2000m. He will be racing against some pretty handy horses including Queensland Derby winner Mr Quickie but Mark believes that the four-year son of Magnus is certainly in with a chance.
“He has stripped fitter from his recent start at Sandown where he ran a good second, so there is still plenty of upside.”
Big Brew will jump from Barrier 8 and will be ridden by leading jockey Craig Williams.
It is difficult times with owners and fans still not permitted on course, but we wish everyone the best of luck and hope you enjoy the live coverage of both racedays on Racing.com.
