West Africa kicks off mid-week streak

Promising colt West Africa made an auspicious debut at Kilmore on Tuesday and in doing so kicked off a mid-week winning streak for the Kavanagh stable.

West Africa could not have looked more impressive speeding to a nine length win over the 1112m course at Kilmore for jockey Michael Rodd.

The three-year-old is a son of Henrythenavigator who stands at Coolmore Stud who race the colt along with partners Go Bloodstock, Emmaroo Bloodstock, Selworthy Enterprises and Robert and Barbara Mcclure.

The Prime Thoroughbreds filly Awasita was to follow on Wednesday at Ballarat and was similarly impressive albeit by half the winning margin of her male stablemate. The daughter of Commands handled the slow conditions to record a four and a half length win over her rivals at what was just her second start in a race.

Flashy chestnut filly Mother Grace continued the winning streak on Thursday at Bendigo where she registered a three quarter length debut win after racing on the pace. The filly showed plenty of dash and defied the late challenge of Good Music in the straight.

The trio of first time winners were partnered by jockey Michael Rodd rode who rode a treble at Kilmore and double at Bendigo.
