Wild Rain to retire

Stakes winning sprint mare Wild Rain is set to be retired from racing following her unplaced effort in the Oakleigh Plate on Saturday.

The five-year-old failed to recapture the form of last preparation that saw her win the Group Two MVRC McEwen Stakes and Group Three MRC Sir John Monash Stakes and place behind Extreme Choice in the Group One MVRC Moir Stakes, prompting the decision from owners.

Wild Rain has been a wonderful horse for connections winning on eight occasions and banking $841,067 in prizemoney. Half of those wins were at stakes level where she accounted for the aforementioned McEwen and Sir John Monash Stakes as well as the Listed MRC Doveton Stakes and Listed SAJC Lightning Stakes.

Her biggest payday, however, came in defeat when runner up in the Magic Millions Sprint on the Gold Coast.

A graduate of the 2013 Gold Coast sale Wild Rain was purchased as a yearling for $150,000 by trainer Mark Kavanagh. She is a daughter of Manhattan Rain, a half-brother to champion Redoute's Choice, and sire of this seasons boom two-year-old filly She Will Reign.

Wild Rain was produced by the winning Rory's Jester mare North Flower, a half-sister to North Bell, the dam of Champion Northerly (by Serheed), and his Group winning siblings North Boy and Northern Song both by Rory's Jester.
