Whobegotyou stars first up

Stable star Whobegotyou opened his spring campaign with a first up win in the Group Two MRC Lawrence Stakes at Caulfield.

The win was his tenth in an illustrious career that has thus far netted over $3.2 million in prizemoney. The six year old has performed almost exclusively at stakes level throughout his career and eight of his ten wins have been at Group One (two) or Group Two (six) level.

Despite only having won first up once previously - his sensational debut in May of 2008 - Whobegotyou had finished second at each of his other resuming runs. He opened favourite but drifted to be replaced at the jump by unbeaten mare Lights of Heaven. She was the eventual runner up and lost no admirers from a Caulfield Cup standpoint.

Whobegotyou will attempt to win his third consecutive Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes at Moonee Valley on September 11 at his next start.

It may have been a quiet Spring, but Kavanagh Racing’s team has been set for the Summer period. With a lot of inexperienced young horses set to race in the next few months the stable is happy with their decision to bypass the Spring and take advantage of the excellent pastures and give their horses a little for time, and the way the horses have developed is testament to the fact they made the right move.
